TWWS and Warhammer Games

What is Warhammer?

It is a good question, with a slightly involved answer, …

Warhammer is a vast universe of tabletop wargames and miniatures created by Games Workshop.

In ‘ye Olden Days’, "Warhammer" referred solely to Warhammer Fantasy Battle (WFB), a strategic game where players commanded regiments of classic fantasy races like elves and dwarfs in 28mm scale.

This was later complemented by its immensely popular sci-fi counterpart, Warhammer 40,000 (40k).

Over the decades, both versions have expanded into numerous board games, card games, and video games. While 40k thrives in its 10th edition.

The classic Fantasy Battle was relaunched after a hiatus as 'Warhammer: The Old World', allowing fans to revisit its rich legacy.

Do we play Warhammer ?

Yes, absolutely.

While the wider popularity of specific Games Workshop titles naturally ebbs and flows, our club has consistently maintained a vibrant scene for both of the company's major systems. Warhammer 40,000, the enduring grimdark sci-fi epic, enjoys regular play, with the roll of dice for its current edition a common sound at club meetings.

However, the society’s engagement with the game is notably deep and historical; many members actively choose to revisit and play cherished older editions of 40k, whose rules and character hold a special, nostalgic place in their gaming hearts.

While the club has always had members interested in the classic Warhammer Fantasy Battles game, many veteran gamers find its ruleset does not capture the specific scale, tactical nuance, or game playing feel they seek, so is much less played.
