What is Warhammer? |
It is a good question, with a slightly involved answer, …
Warhammer is a vast universe of tabletop wargames and miniatures created by Games Workshop.
In ‘ye Olden Days’, "Warhammer" referred solely to Warhammer Fantasy Battle (WFB), a strategic game where players
commanded regiments of classic fantasy races like elves and dwarfs in 28mm scale.
This was later complemented by its immensely popular sci-fi counterpart, Warhammer 40,000 (40k).
Over the decades, both versions have expanded into numerous board games, card games, and video games. While 40k thrives
in its 10th edition.
The classic Fantasy Battle was relaunched after a hiatus as 'Warhammer: The Old World', allowing fans to revisit its
rich legacy.
| Do we play Warhammer ? |
Yes, absolutely.
At the Tunbridge Wells Wargames Society, Warhammer has been a cornerstone of the hobby for many members, who have
collected, painted, and battled with these miniatures for years.
While the popularity of specific Games Workshop titles has ebbed and flowed, both Warhammer Fantasy Battle (and its
newer iteration, The Old World) and Warhammer 40,000 are regularly enjoyed.
Notably, our club embraces the full history of these games, with many members preferring to play cherished older
editions that hold a special place in their gaming hearts.
At the moment WFB and 40k are regularly played, although members enjoy playing older versions of both games.
